Cornish Traditional Cottages has launched a new national http://www.corncott.com/photo [Photography contest aimed at finding its next holiday brochure front cover. The firm is looking for interesting and striking photos that are representative of Cornwall.
Mathew Filewood, Manager, Cornish Standard Cottages comments, “The brochure cover is one of the most tough choices I make every year as it has to work on several levels and be eye-catching and inspiring. Photography can portray numerous things such as an area’s men and women, cultures, customs, history or landscape, so it will be fascinating to see how the public view Cornwall.”
The county was recently the winner of ‘Best UK Holiday County or Region’ in the British Travel Awards, voted for by over 220,000 people, the largest awards programme in the UK. This was the third time in five years that Cornwall has come out top in the awards widely referred to as the “Oscars” of the travel business.
The brave move by Cornish Conventional Cottages is part of an ongoing re-branding method for the family run firm which has been praised for its innovative use of developing communication techniques such as Twittter, Facebook & YouTube and which has spent the last year optimising the efficiency of its website, where entries to the competition can be uploaded. Established in 1964 the organization represents around 300 properties across Cornwall and is currently offering consumers the opportunity to book for 2011 and pay only a 25% deposit.
“This is an chance for everyone” continues Filewood, “ I’m searching forward to seeing various interpretations of the county. We’ve seen a steady enhance in bookings this year and it’s clear from conversations we have with our customers that a lot of are now choosing Cornwall over a holiday abroad, so I hope there will be a diversity of entries and look forward to 1 of them taking pride of place on the front of the brochure.

With panoramic views across unspoilt countryside towards the sea, this detached Cornish stone and slate cottage is set in the modest hamlet of Crugmeer about a mile from the popular harbour town of Padstow. A renovated cottage in a quiet hamlet, 5 minutes, along country lanes, from the picturesque harbours of Newlyn and Mousehole. Approached by a winding path through a fairly walled and gated cottage garden, the cottage has been extended to contain a spacious Oak fitted kitchen with a dining region to 1 side. From the kitchen a back door opens into a conservatory and from there into a sheltered, enclosed patio garden with a pretty fish pond, mature shrubs and a barbeque region. Set in the heart of the unspoilt 18th century harbourside village of Charlestown, these recently restored Grade II listed barns are some of the oldest dwellings in the village. A short stroll from the cliff path and the small sand and pebbly beaches, this conservation area focuses around the quayside which is the property port for the well-known collection of Square Sail tall ships and still survives as a working harbour these days. Significantly care has been taken to retain the charm and character of these two stone and slate barn conversions which are surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens for the visitors use with sea views from the lawn and ample parking. The amenities of the village are all close at hand such as the Shipwreck & Heritage Centre and the Cornish Smoked Fish Organization, the town of St Austell, 2 miles, has a good choice of shops, a railway station and a golf course and the Eden Project is within a 10 minute drive.
